For 10 years, Pets Of The Homeless has helped to keep best friends together. Through our Pet Food Bank, we’ve delivered over 2.3 million meals to pets in need. But the cost of living crisis is pushing more families to the brink and the demand for support is skyrocketing. In the first four months of 2025, we’ve already distributed 220,000 pet meals - more than we did in the entire year of 2020.
Meet Matthew and Maverick
For the past two years, Maverick has been Matthew’s loyal companion.
They’ve faced hardship side by side.
From caring for Matthew’s sick grandmother, to being kicked out of her home by relatives after she passed.
They’ve endured stays in motels that drained Matthew’s savings, where Maverick wasn’t welcome.
And for the last two months, they have been living in a swag.
They have no power, no water, and no heater. The nearest facilities are over a kilometre away, and no car means walking everywhere — rain, hail or shine.
Maverick means everything to Matthew. He frequently skips meals to feed his beloved big boy. To Matthew, Maverick is family.
